With 2021 round the corner, you get to see many metrics that have come to the fore with the assurance that they are the best choices for ranking your website in search engine results in 2021.

One such metric is Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS), a Google metric that measures a user experience event. It is likely to be one of the reliable google search ranking factors for your website in 2021.

So, let us understand it first and then unlock the ways to use it to optimize websites.

What is CLS?

It certainly makes sense first to understand what CLS is so that you can figure out the rest of the things better.

It is the unexpected shiting of web page elements during the downloading phase of web pages. Usually, the stuff that causes a shift are fonts, images, videos, contact forms, buttons, etc.

It would help if you minimized CLS as pages that shift around can cause a poor user experience.

Factors Behind CLS

Poor CLS happens mainly due to five reasons, according to Google. And the factors are:

  • Images without dimensions
  • Ads, embeds, and iframes without dimensions
  • Dynamically injected content
  • Web Fonts causing FOIT/FOUT
  • Actions in the queue for a network response before updating DOM

Now, let us walk through how we can get rid of the CLS causing factors;

 – Images

According to Google, the dimensions of images and videos should conform to the declarations in HTML. And when it comes to responsive images, you need to ensure that the different image sizes for the different viewports use the same aspect ratio. And Google recommends a good resource–AspectRatioCalculator.com– for calculating the aspect ratios.

 – Ads

Dealing with ads is not a smooth affair. It is a bit tricky. One of the best ways to deal with the CLS causing ads is to style the element where the ad is going to appear. In other words, you can confine the ad inside a div with a specific height and width so that the ad cannot cause CLS.

 – Dynamically Injected Content

You can link content on a web page dynamically. For example, you can link a YouTube video or tweet in WordPress, which will display the video or tweet as embedded objects.

 – Web-Based Fonts

If you download web fonts, it can cause something called Flash of Invisible Text (FOIT) and Flash of Unstyled Text (FOUT). You can prevent it by using rel=” preload” in the link for downloading that web font. Also, you can find out the factors causing CLS by using Lighthouse.

 – CLS Can Slip in During Development

It can also happen that CLS can sneak in during the development stage itself as many of the assets that deliver the page get loaded onto the browser’s cache. When a developer visits that page, which is under development, he will not notice the presence of a layout shift as the page elements are already downloaded.

How to calculate CLS?

It will be useful if you make some efforts to calculate CLS. When you calculate, you will find the involvement of two metrics or events. While the first is called Impact Fraction, the second is called Distance Fraction.

 – Impact Fraction

In essence, the Impact Fraction is a measure of the amount of space an unstable element takes up in the viewport, which you see on the mobile screen.

During the downloading and subsequent shifting of an element, the total space that the element occupies in the viewport is called the Impact Fraction.

For example, if an element occupies 50 percent of the viewport and then drops down by 25 percent. When you add those values, you get 75 percent, which is called the Impact Fraction, and it’s expressed as a score of 0.75.

 – Distance Fraction

Distance Fraction is the second measurement that denotes the amount of space the element moved from the original position to the final position.

When you refer to the example cited in the Impact Fraction section, you will find that the page element moved 25%.

You can now easily calculate the CLS–by multiplying the Impact Fraction by the Distance Fraction:

0.75 x 0.25 = 0.1875

CLS Measuring Methodology

You can measure performance metrics in one of two ways–’In the Lab’ and ‘In the Field’.

 – In the Lab

When you develop new features, you can use this method. You cannot measure the impact of new features on real users during the development phase. As such, you need to test the feature in the lab to prevent performance regressions.

 # Lab Tools

 – In the Field

Once development is over, you need to test on real users who will be loading and interacting with the page. The site performance depends on the user’s device capabilities and network conditions in addition to how the user interacts with the page. Therefore, you need to test your site in the field to know how it performs on real users.

 # Field Tools

Conclusion

You need to optimize your website so that it appears in the top Google search results. Although the existing factors, like website page load speed, etc. will play decisive roles, yet CLS is expected to play a new role that you should not miss out on in 2021. It will help if you spend some time understanding it.

Despite Google’s unofficial promise (made after rolling out “Florida” update back in November 2003) to not mess up with the ranking algorithm during the holiday season; the world’s biggest search engine is on a continuous spree to push fresh algorithmic updates – Penguin 3.1, 3.2, 3.3 & 3.4 one after another. As reported by searchengineland on 10th Dec, 2014, a Google Spokesperson said in an open statement that Penguin is shifting to more continuous updates with the idea to keep optimizing its algorithm as they go now. More details of all these 4 Penguin updates are shared below.

Penguin 3.1

Considering it as a part of Penguin 3.0, Google released Penguin 3.0 update on November 27, 2014. Though Google has already confirmed this update, no cases of penalty have been reported so far.

Penguin 3.2, Penguin 3.3 and Penguin 3.4

All these updates are not yet confirmed by Google. While Penguin 3.2 rolled out on December 2, 2014, Penguin 3.3 was released on December 5, 2014 and Penguin 3.4 on December 6, 2014.

Amongst all these four continuous updates, Google has confirmed only Penguin 3.1 so far. However Google’s decision to not even spare the Holiday season has left many people wondering & many online businesses worried as their sole earnings are at the mercy of Google. From “Thanksgiving” onward, Google is on a continuous spree to violate its “no updates during the holiday season” rule despite claiming to avoid updates during holidays on multiple occasions (in 2011 and 2013). Attached below are the screenshots of two such tweets made by Matt Cutts and Google.

01

Two months back when Google unveiled Penguin 3.0 update after a complete one year gap in order to slam websites violating Google webmaster guidelines, many clients from US & UK who’ve been hit by the penalty consulted SEO experts to recover their online presence. While Google confirmed that Penguin 3.0 affected nearly 1% of the search queries worldwide, we’re yet to see the impact of Penguin 3.1, 3.2, 3.3 and 3.4 on search engine rankings.

A Piece of Advice to all SEO Folks & Website Owners

Though it’s too late for you to avoid penalty from this Penguin update, we still recommend SEO folks to run a health check-up on their clients websites for “bad links” and avoid any black hat SEO techniques to lift search engine rankings unethically. For all the website owners especially those who don’t believe in updating their sites according to latest Google algorithmic updates, it’s time you opt for ethical SEO consulting services from a digital agency where professionals strictly follow Google webmaster guidelines and keep track of all the changes made by Google.

We hope that websites who’ve still retained massive penalty from previous Penguin updates soon clean up their spam problems and lift their rankings on Google’s search result pages. Stay tuned on our news section for getting information on more Google updates. if you have any questions regarding the Penguin hit.

Nearly after waiting for one year, Google unveils its updated Penguin 3.0 version, which is aimed to fight with spam websites especially those websites that has not adhered with the linking guidelines of Google and fall under link schemes. We have notified earlier that Penguin 3.0 is expected to hit soon. As usual with earlier updates, this update too will have good effects on some websites’ ranking while it will also adversely affect some websites, which have yet not followed the Google’s link building principles.

As per the reports of Search Engine Land, some have noticed slight changes occurring in the search results of Google starting from the last Friday night and thus, the speculations related with the launch of Penguin 3.0 update have risen in the atmosphere. Google has already claimed to launch this update this month and from the changes in its search results, it becomes pretty clear that it has bombed the search queries with its latest Penguin update from last Friday itself.

When asked for the confirmation, Google has verified to Search Engine Land that this update has already rolled out. However, until this date, Google has not provided any further details related with the percentage of search results, which have been affected by the roll of Penguin 3.0 update since its launch.

It might seem to be a long wait for Penguin release, but now Google has lifted curtain by releasing the sixth version of its Penguin search engine algorithm. This update is majorly known as Penguin 3.0 but this name is not given by Google itself but as per the previous numbering system of Penguin updates, this number syncs well.

This latest Penguin update of Google is termed as one of the most waited algorithmic updates in Google’s history. Most of the publishers were excitedly waiting for this update, which has finally rolled out in the market since last Friday. The reason why publishers were waiting was that impacts related with any update of Google’s search engine algorithm will only get reflected when the next version is released in the market.

Those publishers that were impacted by earlier update release of Penguin in October 2013 are eager to know if their efforts made during the earlier update has gone in favor of their websites or not. It is time for all the search engine marketers to wait and monitor what changes will be experienced to their websites due to Penguin 3.0 update.

Ant-Metric-Survey-of-Panda-4-Reveals-Secrets-of-Quality-Content

Quality content has become a popular term in the past few years ever since Google has announced its search engine algorithm updates, Panda and Penguin. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) experts have often been told to take care of the content quality to ensure higher ranking of their websites in search results. But what does this quality content actually means?

In simple definition, “Quality content includes fresh, relevant and creative textual information about some products, services and or about an organization itself, which is capable of attracting audience, thereby enhancing the traffic on your website”. A unique and freshly written content improves the chances of a website to attain higher ranks in search queries. But the most important question that always strikes in the mind of internet marketing professionals is that, are there some metrics for measuring the quality of content? Or we simply have to keep on writing quality content, just like the given figure predicts:

01

Instead of simply giving our authors with the guidelines of writing quality content, it is better to take an in-depth overview of how we can ensure traffic on our respective websites while writing quality content.

Recently Google has launched Panda 4.1 Update, which has also impacted the ranking of a number of websites in search results. The impact was positive for some websites, while it was negative for some websites. Why is it so? Are there some metrics, which help us in quantifying the quality of content on those websites, which have been positively impacted by the Panda 4.1 update? In my opinion, it is better to do some manual research to understand the basic behind the importance of quality content in this post Panda 4.1 era.

Checking Winners of Panda 4.0 Update

The winner list of Panda 4 update was released by Searchmetrics, which consists of the websites that have an amazing search visibility of 10,000 and their visibility have touched a remarkable figure of 250% with this update.

The search is conducted not only keeping in mind the quantity of content on the winner sites but the opportunities were also explored that allows better user interaction over these websites to their target audience, since Panda 4 gives importance to better user engagement experience.

Do you think that it is simply wastage of time in putting extra efforts for analyzing the winning websites of Panda 4 update? You might be thinking so, as we have some many metrics available over internet, which help in examining the needs required for achieving better ranks in search results? But, I don’t think that certain metrics can help us revealing true figures. This is the reason why I am going to explain the concept behind checking the quality of content by using the data presented by the anti-metric survey of Panda 4.

Before that, I am going to cite a few Google Panda 4 update recovery tips for the websites, which have suffered from this algorithmic update.

02

While the above mentioned helps in minimizing the adverse impact of Panda 4 update on your website, but these are not the keys to guaranteeing success in this internet-driven market place. Panda 4 update is known for spamming all websites, which have poor quality content. So, it is indispensable for use to perform the survey over what does this quality content truly means? The analysis conducted over  the winning websites of Panda 4 reveals some striking secrets behind their success, which I am going to list down here:

  • Most of the winning websites are using decade old domain names, which have proved that developing an epic site with higher ranking requires both quality of content as well as time because it is the time only, which has given these websites the opportunity to add content.
  • Subsequently, these websites have variety of content with edifying texual as well graphical information. Most of these websites have added credibility to their content in different ways.
  • Another striking factor, which the anti-metric survey has revealed is that most of these websites have aggregated content  from somewhere else and they have so many content available over internet that they are search engines in their own domains. Isn’t it surprising? It is something that Panda don’t like, but still they have managaed to add value in their aggregated content to make their websites Panda friendly.
  • Eventually, all of these winning websites of Panda 4 update have compelling content that is capable of motivating the readers to do something more from just reading the content, which is essential for generating leads and sales.

Besides, all these winning websites have used granular indexing feature that provides them the versatility of making their content easily available to the users in various ways. This helps in adding significant value to their content.

Outcomes of Anti-Metric Survey of  Panda 4

Does anti-metric survey successfully reveals the secrets of quality content? I am really not sure if it has revealed the basic fundamental information required to understand the concept of quality content in view of Panda 4 update, but from this survey, all the winning websites have emerged as the true winners because they all are individually capable of qualifying the essential objectives, which are necessary for improving their ranking in search results even after the release of Panda 4 update.

These websites not only offers rich, qualitative, quantitative, entertaining, varied, and interesting information to the users, but their target audiences have the advantage of doing a lot of things other than just reading the content on their websites.

Checking Common Factors

This anti-metric survey has unleashed the real meaning of quality content and also discloses the steps required for achieving success through Google Panda update. It also shows the common factors between each of the winning websites, which have helped them in emerging as the factual frontrunners among their competitors. These common factors are:

  • All the winning websites offer better user engagement by presenting compelling content to their audiences.
  • They have numerous indexed pages, which have made their visibility clearer to the audience.
  • They include various occasions for user engagement and purchasing.
  • They have sharable content on their websites with a wider audience spectrum.
  • All these websites contain content of their user’s interest and they have granular site search function making it easier for the users to search them over internet.

Google’s Advice for Quality Content

Before summarizing, it is important to take a look at the Google’s advice for ‘Quality Content’. According to Google, build a website that gives real value to your target audience and integrate your links to other significant websites. Rather than partaking in link-exchange programs, it is better for the links back to develop organically for your website. If Google’s algorithm evaluates the connection of links between your website and other websites and understands that you are part of a scheme to unnaturally create back links, your website will probably be reprimanded in the search rankings.

Overall, if you really want to save your website from getting penalized by Google’s current as well as upcoming updates, it is important for you to think and search manually and not by simply relying on metrics and numbers. If you are successful in utilizing practical insights gained by putting your manual efforts, you will certainly get success and relevance for your website.

Google is getting geared to roll out the latest Panda Update, known as Panda 4.1. This update is 27th Panda update ever since Google has launched its algorithmic update by the name of Panda. As per the sources suggest, this new update has a filter, which is specifically designed for penalizing poor or low quality content and barring it from getting higher ranks in search results.

Google has also revealed in a Google+ post that a slow roll out of this new Panda 4.1 update will begin during this week only and it will continue till next week until it is completed. However, Google has further added that this new update will affect 3% to 5% search queries depending on their locations.

When asked for anything different, Google divulges that this update will be very precise and it will help the high quality small to medium sized websites to rank better in search results. Google’s statement related to this new update says,

Based on user and webmaster feedback, we have been able to discover a few more signals to help Panda identify low quality content more conveniently. This results in a better diversity of high quality small and medium sized sites rank higher, which is nice”.

Panda 4.1 Might Bring Benefits to some, Penalty to Others

Does your site get affected by Panda update earlier? Have you made changes according to the Panda update guidelines on your website? If your reply is yes,  this new update will bring loads of benefits to you. Your website’s chances of getting higher ranking in search results will boost significantly. However, those you have new websites and are not affected by the previous Panda update might keep their finger crossed, as this new update might affect their site’s ranking.

So, if you own a new website and experience a sudden drop in your site’s ranking from this week onwards, then this new Panda update will be solely responsible for this. So, its better to become prepared and get your site tuned up as per this update guideline.

Why to Call 4.1 Update?

Why this new Panda update is given number “4.1”? It is just because the previous Panda update released by Google was called as “4.0”and it was a major update. Hence, we went with the old fashioned numbering system unless it becomes absurd again. We number the updates in a sequential manner because it is very imprecise to remember which Panda update was major or which one was minor.

Since, this new update is rolled out four months after the previous Panda 4.0 update and we can assume that this is a new quarterly cycle, which we are going through. In 2012, Panda has received updates in almost every month, but in 2013 no update for Panda rolled out at all. This time, it is better to hope some good outcomes from this update.

Google Penguin 3.0 Update Expected to Hit Internet in 2014

In a video hangout in the Google Webmaster Central Office on Google+, John Muller is seen announcing that the Google Penguin 3.0 update is expected to hit the internet in the imminent days of 2014. Muller says,:

My guess is yes, but as always there are things that could happen in between and I am pretty confident that we will have something in the reasonable future, but not today, but we will definitely let you know when things are happening”.

This news comes after the video hangout of September 8, 2014, where Muller said that Google is working on Penguin update and “so I think that saying there isn’t any refresh coming will be false”. This response comes as a response to the question raised by @edwardjohnnash who has asked, “Will the Penguin 3.0 launch in 2014”? Muller further added:

I know the team is working and trying to find a solution that generally refreshes a bit faster”.

However, Muller does not provide any specific timeframe around which the update is expected to roll out other than this phrase, “this not happening today”. The reason why he is not giving a definite timeline is that there are things, which are still subject to modification.

The CEO of SEO and digital marketing agency Rank Secure, “Baruch Labunski” has asked Muller to elucidate if his comments about making things better and faster meant updates could occur on a regular basis just like Panda.

In response to his query, Muller said:

We will see what we can do there. That’s something where we are trying to speed up the things as we can see that this is a bit problems when webmasters try to fix their problems they actually go and fix their issues, but our algorithm doesn’t reflect in a reasonable time, so that’s something where it makes sense to improve the speed of our algorithms as well”.

He responds to all queries related to the Penguin 3.0 update in 54 minutes and 45 seconds into the video. One day later, Muller wrote in Google’s Webmaster Central Help Forum, that is it feasible for the webmasters to modify their websites for enhancing their rankings without a Penguin update if they concentrate on clearing their sites’ issues ensuring their sites are performing better rather than focusing on individual factors of each algorithm.

Google-Pigeon-Update

Recently news flashed over the Internet that Google has introduced changes to its local search engine algorithm, which is named as “Google Pigeon Update” by Search Engine Land. With this update, we still do not know who will instantly get affected but the local businesses are sure to face an increase or decrease in their website traffic and referrals.  The Google Pigeon update is launched for enhancing the distances and local parameters to make the local search results more accurate for the users.

While every search engine algorithm update of Google goes in favor for the Internet users but the online businesses have to suffer to an extent. This time the update is concerned with only local search algorithm. Hence, the local businesses have to gain an in-depth understanding of this new update for making their website ranking improved over Google and other popular search engines. So what exactly does this Google Pigeon update is all about and how does it impact the local businesses? Although, this update is currently being used within US for English language queries, but businesses based in other countries have to be prepared to implement this successfully for their better outcomes.

What Does Google Pigeon is All About?

This “Birdy” update of Google is devised to combine the local search engine algorithm profoundly within the main search engine algorithm that utilizes various rankings signals. It incorporates different search capabilities like synonyms, spelling corrections, and the Knowledge graph. This new updated local search engine algorithm of Google also encompasses few other factors related with local search such as the location ranking and distance factors for local businesses. This new Pigeon update is aimed to offer an enhanced experience to the internet users for local results.

Evaluating Google Pigeon Update

Unveiled on July 24, this new local search engine algorithm update of Google has not unturned anything significant about the bundle of new changes accompanied with it. However, for the local businesses it seems to be very important and fortunate as local directories are specifically receiving loads of advantages due to this change.

The Google Pigeon algorithm update is successfully labeled as Google’s wide spread local algorithm update since 2012 Venice update. According to the reports of Moz and Whitespark, this new update is influencing around 24% of all local (7-pack) search results because it is endeavored to enhance the local searches through two important upgrades listed as follows:

  • It has encompassed the organic algorithm ranking signals within the local algorithm which comprises traditional signals like back links, domain authority, on site keywords, contents and more.
  • It has enhanced the local targeting parameters of Google to offer more genuine results based on a user’s search location.

These upgrades are definite on paper for the users but local search results are known to reward the local Search Engine Optimization techniques over a dormant website, which clearly offers high quality services to the users.

How Google Pigeon Update Impacts the local Businesses?

Earlier when we search for something local, we usually got the carousel results followed by a list of organic results (local listings) also known as 7-packs search results. These types of local listing are often given importance when people are looking for phrases with a local intent. For example, here you can view the 7-pack local listings when searching for “Restaurants in Manchester”.

manchester-restaurants-local-listing

While the new Google Pigeon update algorithm is moving the local listings into the carousel, it also indicates that the websites will definitely get a boost in their traffic. Since all the local listing have moved into the carousel as per this new local search algorithm update, other directory style websites are displaying higher up the page and better visibility eventually leads to better traffic and leads to the websites thus increasing the opportunities for enhanced conversion rates. For example, you can see a screenshot from US displaying local businesses listings within the top carousel. While other directory style websites are listed within the main results.

It seems that as long as you put the correct measures in place, your website will always receive better traffic rates due this new Google Pigeon update. Some large directory style website listings are also getting 5-10% increase in their organic traffic through this update.

Apart from this, other reputed web directories such as Yelp and Yell will probably get benefitted due to this update because they have exceptionally strong brand values which help them n getting better results through effective Search Engine Optimization techniques.

What to Do the Next?

If you want to put the Google Pigeon Update into perspective and also want to lay out an apparent plan of action, you must be aware of various things that have to be considered while implementing this new update. While this update is currently released for US and not for UK and others, it is better to stay ahead of this game to get winning results in the imminent days.

Create listings for Reputed Business Directories

The first step towards its implementation is to complete your listing on reputed business directories. It is important to stress on “reputed” business directories because these are completely different from the nasty and cheap SEO directories, which impact negatively on your search engine rankings.

business-directories

Besides these popular generic web directories, there are some industry specific web directories that are worth being listed. Therefore, you must perform an extensive research work for getting higher traffic and conversion rates to your website.

It means that if any user does not click on your website over the carousel, then there are greater chances that your website will be displayed in one the top listed directories. Hence, by covering both the angles, you will maximize your chances of getting better traffic.

Ensure Google identifies your business via Google My Business

Have you previously heard about Google My Business? If not, I will tell you. It has recently replaced the old listing tools, Google Local and Google Places. Hence, it is very important to ensure that you local business is listed on Google My Business no matter if you own a single outlet/shop/store/restaurant or office. Make sure that all your physical locations are listed on Google My Business.

google-my-business

If you have listed the physical location of your business using Google My Business listing tool, then your website will be privileged to get more traffic and leads.

On May 20, 2014, Google began rolling out their Panda 4.0 update, which is designed to penalize poor content websites. This update generated both “winners” who have moved up in Google rankings and “losers” who have dropped down in ranking. According to the initial winners and loser charts of Searchmetrics, eBay is one of the biggest losers and has lost a tremendous amount of traffic from Google, much of it from the ebay.com/bhp/ area of its site. The other big losers are ask.com, starpuls.com, and biography.com.

Larry Kim, Founder of Wordstream, estimates that eBay has lost 80% of its organic traffic and ranking after rolling out of Google’s new Panda algorithm and the Payday Loan 2.0 update. Making bad condition to worse, eBay had to ask all its users to change their passwords after a database hack. Peter Meyers, who writes for the Moz Blog, founded that eBay’s share of top 10 Google rankings across a range of search results had collapsed in the past couple of days:

Why eBay has been penalized by Google?

eBay has been Google’s second-biggest customer for its paid shopping “product listing ads” (PLAs) and it had pretty good “organic” search ranking, previously. So, why it has been penalized by Google? Few reasons are mentioned below:

• Larry Kim, Founder of Wordstream, agrees that bad SEO practices of eBay are responsible for this poor ranking. He also pointed out that eBay’s poorly managed campaigns and atrocious misuse of AdWords features like Dynamic Keyword Insertion can be the main reasons.
• Larry Kim also founded that pages on eBay has very little content (thin content), like

internal-doorway-pages Panda 4.0

The actual product listing pages consistently have three features:

  • eBay’s own, internal search results
  • Ads – text ads, display ads and PLAs
  • Internal links to other product results pages

In addition to this, eBay is also employing aggressive internal linking on super-long-tail keywords in its footers:
Panda 4.0 eBay Thin Content

According to Refugeeks, Google’s latest update Panda 4.0 penalized eBay’s category pages that it had created especially for search-engines. It also said that some of eBay’s category pages weren’t “real” category pages, but rather, pages created solely for search engines

With penalizing one of its biggest customers, do you think Google will ever mercy any site with spam? Will eBay take action against Google? Will Google return the site again on top position in organic search claiming it was a bug? What are your speculations? Share your comments with us.

Google’s Matt Cutts has just tweeted that they are rolling out version 4.0 of the Google Panda algorithm.
It is worth noting that Google announced it would no longer confirm or give more details on future Panda updates due to its new “gradual” roll out infrastructure for Panda Updates. But, this time Google updated with the new Panda version that means it is a bigger update.

How is this update different?

Google’s latest Panda algorithm must be a major update to the actual algorithm versus just a data refresh, which means that Google has made changes to how Panda identifies websites. There has been no comment by Matt Cutts yet on whether this Panda update targeted anything different, but Google has tweaked this algorithm to target those websites, which are stuffed with a large number of keywords and low quality information. Indirectly, this algorithm update is putting spammers on fire.
Google’s panda previous updates targeted those websites, which have low quality content. In addition to low quality content, this latest update will firmly affect two other fundamental issues like thin content and duplicate content of the web page. Alternatively, we can say that Google may have just tightened up how they are identifying low quality websites.

How big is this update?

Google told SearchEngineLand that this new panda update affects 7.5% of all English queries, to a degree that might be noticed by a regular user. If we see previous Panda updates, maximum 11.8% English queries were affected. Following three tools shows the change of the new update:

MozCast-
Mozcast is showing turbulence in the Google algorithm over last five days. The stormier and hotter the weather, the more Google’s rankings changed. Here is the screenshot of MozCast’s weather:

SERPmetrics flux charts-
It tracks the flux for US search results across Google, Yahoo, and Bing over a 30-day period. Here is the screenshot of this flux chart:

Algoroo-
It tracks Google algorithm changes by observing turbulence in rankings of thousands of keywords.Algoroo is reporting a slight ‘above average’ change for yesterday. See the screenshot:

As per these observations, Panda new update looks like a pretty massive update. According to SearchEngineLand, this new update will be gentler for some websites and lay the groundwork for future changes in that direction.

Google Penguin 2.1

BEWARE Spammy Websites!! The search engine giant Google has rolled out yet another change for the manner in which the websites are ranked in the search results, with the launch of Penguin 2.1. The update is expected to affect “1 per cent of the searches to a noticeable degree”.

Penguin 2.1 update is seen as the new generation of the algorithms. The previous Google Penguin 2.0 update that was released on May 22, 2013 only looked at the websites that used black hat SEO techniques to achieve higher rankings and most importantly provide quality results to the visitors. However, this new update has been primarily designed to target the web spam, it goes a bit deeper and looks out for the sites that generate unnatural paid backlinks and rewards the high-quality websites having natural links with a higher rank in the search engine results.

This is altogether Google’s fifth Penguin-related launch. The first series of algorithm update that later went on to be known as Penguin 1.0 was churned out on 24 April, 2012. It was further updated in May and October last year.
